Eagles' 53-man roster projection after 2024 NFL draft: Philly's secondary looks way too dangerous
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles went into the 2024 NFL draft on a mission to upgrade their secondary and they succeeded.

They also beefed up several other positions and planned for the future of their roster along the way.

The Eagles drafted a total of nine new faces and have signed six UDFA signings so far.

Eagles 2024 NFL Draft Class:

Pick No. 22: CB Quinyon Mitchell
Pick No. 40: CB Cooper DeJean
Pick No. 94: EDGE Jalyx Hun
Pick No. 152: WR Ainias Smith
Pick No. 155: LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr
Pick No. 172: G Trevor Keegan
Pick No. 185: WR Johnny Wilson
Pick No. 190: OL Dylan McMahon

Of course, more moves will be made, but until then, let's take a look at the current state of the Eagles' roster and where things are likely to go from here after the dust has settled from the draft.

Note: Players with single asterisk (*) are 2024 draft picks and players with double asterisks (**) are 2024 undrafted free agents.

Quarterback (3)

IN: Jalen Hurts, Kenny Pickett, Tanner McKee
OUT: Will Grier

The Skinny: Hurts is the starting quarterback of this football team. The Eagles didn't make a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers for former first-round pick QB Kenny Pickett just to store him away. He'll back up Hurts while McKee continues his job as emergency QB.

Running Back (4)

IN: Saquon Barkley, Kenneth Gainwell, Will Shipley*, Kendall Milton**
OUT: Lew Nichols, Tyrion Davis-Price

The Skinny: With the amount of money Barkley is being paid, he will carry a majority of the workload. But Gainwell and Shipley will be there to back him up. Meanwhile, big and strong Milton perfects his receiving skills and leaps Nichols and Davis-Price for a roster spot.

Wide receiver (6)

IN: A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, DeVonte Parker, Parris Campbell, Ainias Smith*, Johnny Wilson*

OUT: Justin Watkins Jr., Jacob Harris, Shaquan Davis, Joseph Ngata, Griffin Herbert, Talik Keaton**, Britain Covey, Griffin Hebert, Shaquan Davis, Jacob Harris

The Skinny: Brown and Smith are obvious locks. Campbell, Parker, and the rookie Smith will compete for that third wide receiver spot. Wilson makes the team because he's enormous and fast, and can block.

Tight end (4)

IN: Dallas Goedert, C.J. Uzomah , Albert Okwuegbunam, Grant Calcaterra
OUT: Noah Togiai, McCallan Castles**

The Skinny: Uzomah provides more veteran presence and the Eagles already seem confident in Okwuegbunam since they signed him before free agency and gave him some guaranteed money.

Offensive line (9)

IN: Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Tyler Steen, Lane Johnson, Mecki Becton, Matt Hennessey, Trevor Keegan*, Fred Johnson

OUT: Dylan McMahon*, Brett Toth, Lecitus Smith, Darian Kinnard, Le'Raven Clark, Gottlieb Ayedze**, Anim Dankwah**, Jason Poe

The Skinny: Becton is the Eagles' new swing tackle while Keegan slides into a backup right guard role. McMahon has a lot of upside to him but not everyone can make the roster, especially one with an already solidified offensive line.

Edge (5)

IN: Bryce Huff, Josh Sweat, Brandon Graham, Nolan Smith, Zach Baun

OUT: Terrell Lewis, Tarron Jackson, Jalyx Hunt*, Patrick Johnson, Julian Okwara

The Skinny: The Eagles invested in sack monster Huff this offseason and are giving Graham his farewell tour, which is going to make it tougher for Hunt to make the initial roster.

Defensive Tackle (5)

IN: Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Milton Williams, Moro Ojomo, Marlon Tuipulotu

OUT: P.J. Mustipher, Thomas Booker, Noah Ellis, Gabe Hall**

The Skinny: This position was the least of the Eagles' worries in 2023 so not much will change here, except for the fact that we'll see Carter take a huge leap. The Eagles did keep seven defensive tackles on last year's roster so if Hall impresses then the UDFA could find himself sliding in there.

Linebacker (4)

IN: Devin White, Nakobe Dean, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Oren Burks

OUT: Brandon Smith, Ben VanSumeren

The Skinny: This competition is going to be a fun one, mainly because everyone and their mother is rooting for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to follow in his All-Pro dad's footsteps. I believe in him ... if the Eagles keep four guys here.

Cornerback (6)

IN: Darius Slay, Quinyon Michell*, Avonte Maddox, Kelee Ringo, Cooper DeJean*, Josh Jobe

OUT: James Bradberry, Isaiah Rodgers, Eli Ricks, Tyler Hall, Mario Goodrich, Tiawan Mullen

The Skinny: The biggest upgrade of the offseason will happen right here. In case you missed out, the Eagles landed not one, but two of the draft's top cornerbacks. Welcome to the show, Mitchell and DeJean. Bradberry is your cap casualty.

Safety (4)

IN: Reed Blankenship, Sydney Brown, Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Tristin McCollum,

OUT: Andre' Sam**, Mekhi Garnder

The Skinny: The Eagles brought back CJC and locked in Blankenship this offseason. Brown is out of the walking boot and ready to explode in Year 2 after showing promising flashes before he was injured.

Specialists (3)

IN: Jake Elliott, Braden Mann, Rick Lovato
OUT: none

The Skinny: The Eagles showed their kickers some love, signing Jake Elliott to a longer deal and re-signing Braden Mann and Lovato to new deals as well.
