Manchester United welcome Newcastle to Old Trafford for the final home game of the season.

A Premier League clash between two European hopefuls after Manchester United failed to dent Arsenal’s title push on Sunday as we limped to a 1-0 defeat.

That result put Erik ten Hag under more pressure, with constant speculation over the manager’s future. INEOS have not backed the manager publicly yet, and they’re set to make a decision on the Dutchman’s future in the summer.

United’s form has helped Newcastle climb up the table and they will be hoping to secure a place in the Europa League next season. Ten Hag can achieve the same feat in the FA Cup final against Man City.

While Ten Hag has not been helped by injuries this season, United can expect to have Lisandro Martinez fit to face Newcastle.

Eddie Howe’s side dropped points at home to Brighton on Saturday and are now level with Chelsea, on 57. A six-place finish would see Newcastle qualify for next season’s Europa League.

The Magpies have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 matches against United across all competitions, so we will need to threaten their goal – which is not something Ten Hag’s side could manage against Arsenal over the weekend. Newcastle have also won their last 3 matches against the Reds.

Date, kick off time and venue

Manchester United vs Newcastle is scheduled to kick-off at 8pm BST on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

The match will take place at Old Trafford.

Where to watch Manchester United vs Newcastle

You will be able to watch the match live on Sky Sports Premier League.

Team news

Ten Hag could be without as many as 10 first-team players for this one.

Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo will be assessed before the match

Fans can expect Willy Kambwala to come back into the defence, while Lisandro Martinez is expected to make the bench.

Newcastle have injury concerns of their own, with as many as eight players missing.

They may be without striker duo Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

Prediction

Newcastle have already beaten United twice this season, at home in the league and at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup, though I think we’ll pick up a point at the very least from tonight’s game.
